Baranoff PTA welcomes everyone to the new school year!  We hope you had a wonderful Summer and are ready for the fun that awaits in 2018-2019!  Our New Parent Orientation along with our Kinder Play Dates were the first events  sponsored by our PTA and we are thrilled to meet all the new families joining Baranoff this year!  

A few items we'd like to share regarding the start of the year - these were important announcements that Mrs. Merriman, our AMAZING school librarian along with our WONDERFUL school administrators (Mrs. Counihan, Mrs. Cantu, & Ms. Sanchez) shared during the orientation.  These are things that everyone should be aware of and in some cases, reminded of as we enter the new school year:

  • FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL is different with the times & the procedures.  School doors will open at 7:30 a.m. with all students being walked directly to their classrooms.  Please bring your patience, smiles & courteous attitudes as we have over 1,000 students along with their families that will be waiting to get into the school at the same time.
  • Will you "BOO HOO" or give a high five with a "WAHOO" on the first day?  Either way, come join us in the library to socialize with other parents & have some sweet breakfast treats!  Our counselors will also be there in case you need an extra hug or conversation of support.
  • NEW START & END TIMES for the school day - Following the first day, the school doors will open at 7:05 a.m.  Assembly will begin in the cafeteria at 7:30 a.m. and then the tardy bell will ring at 7:40 a.m.  School will be dismissed at 2:55 a.m. for the Kinder & 1st graders and then 3 p.m. for all other students.  

PTA wishes everyone a very happy, safe & enjoyable FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!  

Spring Carnival & Silent Auction


Our Spring Carnival is coming up on Saturday, April 14th, 2018 from 12-5 p.m. in the back of the school campus.  There will be lots of exciting games for all ages, as well as some big games like bungee trampoline, rock climbing wall, and obstacle course.  Come hungry & have your lunch while you're here as we'll be grilling burgers & hot dogs along with other carnival food that will be available for purchase.  

During the carnival, there will also be a Silent Auction held in the school gym.  Bidding will start at 12 p.m. and close at 4 p.m.  This year, there will be over 25 baskets that will be auctioned off, and for this to be a success, we need your help!  Every 2 classes in the school will share a sign-up and we are asking parents to help assist with the "filler" items that will be included in the baskets.  Your donations are completely voluntary, but if you'd like to assist, please click HERE to find your class sign-up.  Additional items such as summer camps, jewelry, restaurant certificates, and many more items will also be available.  Also - don't forget about bidding on a week next year to have your child's name on the marquee or the chance to have your name on one of the reserved parking spots in front of the school!

Different this year is our Raffle.  In years past, we had our students come home with raffle tickets to sell.  PTA decided that this was a lot to ask of our students (and parents too!) so we're changing the format.  3 items will be raffled off - a Nintendo Switch, a Ring Doorbell 2, and an Instant Pot & Cookbook.  Tickets will be available for purchase in the gym while the silent auction is going on.  Cost is $5/ticket or 5 tickets for $20.  You will choose which raffle item you'd like the tickets to go towards and the drawing for the items will be at 4:30 p.m. (Not required to be present to win).  

We encourage all of you to visit our CARNIVAL PAGE for additional information or to sign-up to help.  This is one of our largest fundraisers of the year and we need many volunteers to make it a success.  THANK YOU!

Thanksgiving Sharing

Our Thanksgiving Sharing Program provides entire Thanksgiving meals for families in need at Baranoff Elementary and also provides an entire meal for each member of our custodial staff.  We define need as broadly as possible during the Season of Giving.  It might be a temporary job loss, illness, death in the family, or other unusual situation.  If there's a Baranoff family who could simply just use the help of being provided a Thanksgiving meal for their table, we make sure that we support our own first.

However, the overwhelming majority of the meals we assemble are for our Sister School in Southeast Austin, Langford Elementary.  Langford and Baranoff are only 8 miles apart.  You could walk that in 2-3 hours - really!  And the difference in the lives of elementary students in our community and theirs is astonishing.  Last year we were fortunate to provide almost 200 meals for both of our communities.  

This is a great opportunity for families to help families, communities to help communities, and to help our kids learn that kids JUST LIKE THEM, need help.  Community groups, neighbors, places of worship, local businesses, scout groups and more help us supplement the meals that classrooms sponsor at Baranoff Elementary.

If you would like to shop and assemble a meal this year the list of needed items is below.  If you would like to sponsor a meal monetarily, we suggest $40 per meal, but any contribution is appreciated.

$15 CASH for a frozen turkey

*We do not have the capacity to store turkeys and therefore ask for cash.  We place a bulk order that is safely delivered on the day.

Blaze On! Fun Run


PTA is excited for our 1st Annual Fun Run!  Our PTA helps fund educational programs and services to students throughout the year, plus extras to help our hard-working teachers and support staff. We organize family fun nights and buy needed supplies and equipment for the campus. At the top of our Trailblazer Wishlist is a Sunshade for the Small Playground! By having a Fun Run, we will be able to continue this awesome work but it can't be done without your support!  

Parents are encouraged to register their child and create a Fun Run pledge page that you can send out via email, social media or just alert friends and family of their opportunity to support your child (and in turn, PTA).  Please note, registration is not required for your child to participate in the Fun Run, but we encourage your participation.  

The Fun Run will be on Friday, Nov 3rd and will be going on through the entire school-day.  However, each grade level will be provided a schedule where they will be participating in the run, obstacle courses & relays during a 11/2 hour time slot.  We'll publish that schedule closer to the event so that you can plan to watch and support our Buffaloes (or even sign up to help!)  

Book Swap Coming Soon! October 19 @ 6:30 p.m.

PTA's annual Book Swap is coming soon!  Are your kiddos getting tired of flipping through the same books?  How about recycling them with PTA?  There are bins in the school entry where you can put these books.  Your kids can then come the night of the swap and pick up the same number of books they recycled and take home some "new to them" reads!  Book collections will be Oct 9th through Oct 18th.  Volunteers are also needed for this event.

Membership is Key!

Becoming a member of PTA enables you to not only support our school but also to have a voice.  Your membership is active for the entire school-year and you are encouraged to attend our General Membership meetings so you know what our organization is doing as well as have a voice in the voting of important agenda items.  Not only are parents encouraged to become members, you can even have your child join as well as grandparents & neighbors!  It's community involvement that keeps our school the great place it is!

Welcome Kindergartners!

We are excited to welcome our newest buffaloes and want to make sure you're connected with other families that are also starting on this new adventure!  

Come to one of our Kinder Play Dates to connect, meet others and just enjoy some social time:

Friday, August 4th from 5:00-7:00 at Gatling Gun Park (11403 Gatling Gun Lane).  Kona Ice will be stopping by as well so bring $ for a cool treat!

Saturday, August 19th, from 9 - 11 a.m. at the school playground (back of school).  This play date will be after the class list posting, so you'll be able to connect with others that are in your same class!

Welcome to the New School Year!

For those of you with incoming Kindergartners - stay tuned for upcoming play dates. We're in the process of finalizing the details and as soon as these are confirmed, we'll post!
