AISD's new Superintendant, Meria Carstarphen, has outlined her goals for the AISD School District in her 2008 -2009 Annual Report. The letter to the community can be found here on the AISD website.
In the letter she outlines four goals: - Attainment of either Recognized or Exemplary status under the state accountability system. - Attainment of Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) standard under the federal accountability system. - An end to multi-year Academically Unacceptable schools. - Achievement of Recognized or Exemplary status in math and science; and achievement of Exemplary status in reading/language arts, writing and social studies.
For it's part, the Austin School Trustees have adpoted a new Five-Year Strategic Plan at their December 14th meeting. Their plan include goals and strategies that will guide them for the next five years.
Five Year Goals: 1. All students will perform at or above grade level. 2. Achievement gaps among all student groups will be eliminated. 3. All students will graduate ready for college, career, and life in a globally competitive economy. 4. All schools will meet or exceed state accountability standards, and the district will meet federal standards and exceed state standards.
Strategies: - Provide a high-quality, well-rounded educational experience to all students that is rigorous, culturally relevant, healthful, and engaging. - Build strong relationships with students, families, and the community to increase trust and shared responsibility. - Ensure that every classroom has a high-quality, effective educator, supported by high-quality, effective administrators and support staff. - Aligh resources to accomplish priorities within a balanced budget.
